Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has lived an inspiring life. His journey teaches many invaluable lessons and motivates the youth to have strength and courage to stand against any entity which is functioning against the interest of the nation.
Subhas Chandra Bose was born on 23rd January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa Division of West Bengal Province. He was born to Prabhavati Dutt Bose and Janakinath Bose.
He always considered Vivekananda as his spiritual guru and was very much influenced by his teachings. He cleared the Indian Civil Services examination in 1919, but his dream of seeing India as a free nation and a welfare state made him resign from working under the British Administration and drew hi towards politics. Netaji always considered Chittaranjan Das as his political mentor, he learnt a lot from him in the days when he used to work for him as an editor in his newspaper. After working there, he initiated and established his own newspaper, he named it 'Swaraj.'
He was one of those early congressmen who was always drawn by the idea of Poorna Swaraj. Netaji, to show his protest against any compromise with the British Administration, he openly opposed the Motilal Nehru Report, which spoke for dominion status of India. Initially he was very supportive of the idea Satyagraha proposed by Mahatma Gandhi, and actively participated in the Salt Satyagraha of 1930, but vehemently stood against the suspension of Civil Disobedience Movement and signing of the Gandhi-Irwin Pact in 1931.
In 1930s, he was in a very close association with Jawaharlal Nehru and M.N. Roy. They were all intrigued in the Left politics in Congress. In 1938, Netaji won the presidential elections at Haripura and in 1939 he won presidential election in Tripuri. In Tripuri he won the election against Pattabhi Sitarammayya, who was a candidate of Mahatma Gandhi. Due to ideological differences with Gandhi, Bose resigned and left Congress. Further, his position was give to Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
Thereafter, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, formed a new party called, 'The Forward Bloc.' The purpose of this party was to promote and gain support for Left ideology. This party gained immense support from Bengal.
After loosing faith in the political methods for gaining independence, he thought of winning the nation back through an armed rebellion.
In July 1943, he went to Japanese-controlled Singapore from Germany. There he raised the famous and revolutionary slogan of "Delhi Chalo". Also he announced the formation of Indian National Army which would be fighting against the British army for the idea Azad Hind Government on 21st October 1943. Initially the Indian National Army was founded under Mohan Singh and Japanese Major- Iwaichi Fujiwara. The army consisted of Indian prisoners of war from British Indian Army captured by Japanese Forces, in Malyan Campaign and in Singapore. The strength of the army reached to 50,000 soldiers. INA fought allied forces in the borders of India in Imphal and in Burma in 1944. In 1945, The Britishers put INA men on trail for raging war against the Imperial Army. This move sparked massive demonstrations all over the country.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose after living a very motivating life, full of struggle to breathe in an independent India, died in a plane crash in Taiwan. However, there are still many conspiracy theories regarding his death. Unfortunately he did not see the glory of Independent India, but people like him do not die, they live through their ideas and stories.
Netaji will always be alive in the fundamental ideas of Indian and Indianism.
