All about the World Sustainable Development Summit 2022.

The Prime Minister recently spoke at the World Sustainable Development Summit of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

TERI's yearly flagship event is the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS). Previously, it was known as the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit. In 200, it was established. It is the only global summit taking place in the developing countries.

It has been envisioned as a unified platform for accelerating action on sustainable development and climate change. Its goal is to bring together global leaders and intellectuals in the domains of sustainable development, energy, and the environment on a single platform.

TERI is a non-profit research organisation. It performs research for India and the Global South in the sectors of energy, ecology, and sustainable development. The Tata Energy Research Institute was founded in 1974 and renamed The Energy Resources Institute in 2003.

India has kept its promises by ensuring that fair energy access for the poor remains a pillar of its environmental strategy. These efforts included the Ujjwala Yojana scheme, which provided clean cooking fuel to 90 million families. Farmers are also encouraged to install solar panels under the PM-KUSUM plan, which allows them to consume and sell excess electricity to the grid, promoting sustainability and fairness.

The LED bulb distribution system (UJALA), which has been functioning for almost seven years and is said to have saved close to 220 billion units of electricity and reduced 180 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, was discussed. The National Hydrogen Mission intends to tap into "green hydrogen," and it is up to academic and research organisations like TERI to provide scalable solutions.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has recognised India's efforts, and India today has 49 Ramsar areas (wetlands) scattered across more than 1 million hectares. India is a massively diversified country. India, with 2.4 percent of the world's land area, is home to approximately 8% of the world's species.

Since 2015, one of the key priority areas has been the restoration of degraded land, with almost 11.5 million hectares restored. India is on pace to meet its national commitment under the Bonn Challenge to achieve land degradation neutrality. India is adamant about completing all of its UNFCCC obligations. During the CoP-26 meeting in Glasgow, India also increased its goals. India, for example, has said that it will achieve carbon neutrality by 2070 by 2030.

Sustainability necessitates concerted effort for the global commons. The initiatives of India have recognised this interdependence. India's goal through the International Solar Alliance is "One Sun, One World, One Grid." The world must cooperate to ensure that clean energy from a global grid is available everywhere and at all times. This is the "global" perspective that India's ideals represent.

It also asked countries to operate in accordance with universally agreed-upon laws, while keeping in mind the principles of justice, Common but Differentiated Responsibilities, and Respective Capabilities (acting on climate change based on national circumstances). The Paris Agreement targets will not be met unless all nations adopt equality by living within their fair share of the global carbon budget.

The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (C.D.R.I.) seeks to strengthen infrastructure in places prone to natural catastrophes. India also announced a project dubbed "Infrastructure for Resilient Island States" on the sidelines of CoP-26. The most vulnerable are the island developing states, who require immediate protection.

LIFE is about making lifestyle decisions that benefit our world. LIFE will be a global coalition of like-minded individuals dedicated to promoting sustainable lifestyles. They will be known as the 3Ps - Pro Planet People. The Coalition for LIFE is the name of this global campaign.

Sustainable development is defined as development that satisfies the requirements of the present without jeopardising future generations' ability to satisfy their own needs. The Brundtland Commission provided the most commonly acknowledged concept of Sustainable Development in their report 'Our Common Future' (1987). The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a worldwide initiative with a single fundamental goal: to achieve a brighter future for everybody.

Climate Change is a Long-term change in typical weather patterns that have come to characterise Earth's local, regional, and global climates. Climate data records provide evidence of key climate change indicators such as global land and ocean temperature increases, rising sea levels, ice loss at Earth's poles and in mountain glaciers, changes in the frequency and severity of extreme weather such as hurricanes, heatwaves, wildfires, droughts, floods, and precipitation, to name a few.
